Planking became a really fun game on a few internet sites where you would plank in the most bizarre, interesting and abstract ways and send your photo in or post it to the host website.
The Plank as we know it is an excellent test of core stability and midline strength. It is widely used in Gym instructing and Personal Training exercise programs for strength training and general health. There are a number of reasons for this:
- Supports your spine
- Assists in stabilisation
- Absorbs shock
- Reduces load on the bodies extremities
- Aids in pelvic stabilisation necessary for great posture and balance.
Test yourself by planking on Elbows and toes (or knees and elbows) for as long as possible.
2-3minutes would be a good average score.
I have seen athletes hold this exercise in excess of 10 minutes :) How do you rate??
